Letter to those feeling like a mess

by - September 10, 2018

Dear reader,

"You are not a mess, you are a feeling person in a messy world".

So you are feeling heavy. Like a lot of things seem to be coming at you at once and you have absolutely no idea how to tackle them. You manage your deadlines, your commitments just about, but are not sure how. Whilst you are probably getting most of what you need to get done, you don't feel in control. You feel like you are a mess - that your life is controlling you rather than the other way around.

Maybe, it feels like you are by yourself in this. Everyone else seems to have their life sorted out. People around you seem happy and this adds to feeling like you are a mess. But, what you forget is that is that we all have our struggles and most people don't show them. Most people find things harder than they let on.

We all go through battles, and each and every one of them, no matter how big or small can be hard and are important and significant to you. You don't need to feel guilty or bad because you are going through a rough patch. Do not be hard on yourself and feel like you have to have it all sorted out. No one has everything completely worked out - life is unpredictable and that is partly what makes it exciting and an adventure. Films where you already know the ending are not as fun to watch - life is the same.

It is okay not to be okay all of the time. You are special and you are unique. You bring light and happiness to someone. Sometimes you may not even be aware of it. There is someone that cares so very much about you.

Going through difficult things is what helps you grow as a person and flourish - you are so much stronger than your current situation and than you ever give yourself credit for. Sometimes, being lost and feeling like a mess is all you need in order to find yourself again and what you really stand for. Nothing is permanent and this period in your life will end, even if it feels never-ending at the moment.

You will end up where you need to be - sometimes everything goes wrong to open up other opportunities. Things not going to plan can lead us on incredible paths and to amazing people we would not have ended with if everything had gone to plan. Trust the process.

You are capable of what you put your mind to - you can make a positive difference. Nobody has all good days. And remember, whenever you are having a harder time. You are NEVER alone. We are all in this struggle together. We just don't always talk about it transparently and openly collectively, which can make us feel alone.
